Some retailers and brands are marketing high-powered electric devices, commonly called 'e-motos,' as legal e-bikes. They're not the same thing. Real e-bikes have working pedals and stay under 750 watts. 'E-motos' are heavier, faster, and illegal to ride on Colorado's roads and paths. Bicycle Colorado helped craft the language of HB25-1197, the law that makes this false marketing illegal. But the law isn't being enforced, and 'e-motos' keep showing up on our streets and trails.
